Honor guard members (Cadets Matt Prokosh, Dan Hereth, Geoff Schmidt, Ryan Renfrew, Schuyler Strough and Tyler Kulesa) performed the “posting of the colors” by raising the American Flag along with the traditional Coast Guard flag and pennants at the Sylvan Beach Coast Guard Auxiliary annual base opening ceremony.

Our cadets performed the ceremony with an armed contingent of Revolutionary War re-enactors from the local area.  These men, dressed in Revolutionary War era uniforms, carried a replica of the first rendition of the American flag.

The squadron participated in the Whitesboro Memorial Day Parade.  It turns out we were the only military component present at the parade and were positioned just behind the Grand Marshal.

  - 26 May 2008

Utica cadets participated with members from Syracuse and Fulton squadrons in the first joint-squadron bivouac in several years.  We spent the weekend down in Highland Forest near Cazenovia, NY learning compass orienteering, land rescue techniques, map reading, field survival and shelter building.  The weekend was a bit "chilly" but ended up quite enjoyable.

Many thanks go to the staff at Syracuse Cadet Squadron for putting the event together.  We look forward to many more joint activities in the coming years!

Brig General Clark Speicher, former Northeast Air Defense Sector Commander retires effective 30 April 2008.  In the meantime, his retirement party had a "Gilligan's Island" theme.  Guess who the "Gilligan's" were?  Cadets Roczen and Strough (shown here) were accompanied by cadets Kulesa, N., Kulesa, T., Hereth, Schmidt, and Rice assisted with preparation, execution and cleanup of the event.
